We’d love to share everything our learners have done over the last half term, but some of the main highlights we’d like to cover include exams, plagues and badminton!
Around 30 learners sat their Entry Level exams in Maths, in addition to the 25 Key Stage 4 learners who sat their GCSE mock papers, preparing them for final assessments later in the year. We’ve also had some exciting things going on in classrooms too, as some learners have studied fractions which we helped them to understand by using… cake!
In Art, learners focused on ‘The Creative Journey’. This challenged them to identify key areas of inspiration which are meaningful to them personally, and explore ways that their passions can be visually communicated to the world. It’s been wonderful to see learners celebrate and express their individual creativity and enjoy the process.
Learners have played badminton in PE as part of a unit of work on net and wall games. Learners visited a variety of community venues for this and have practiced how to serve, clear, drop and smash, as well as the rules and tactics involved in the game.
GCSE History learners conducted independent research about the Great Plague of 1665. Each learner focused on a different aspect of the Great Plague, including ideas about the causes, treatments and prevention. They then presented their findings to each other – one learner even claimed to be a Renaissance physician and delivered the presentation as an eye witness – they were all truly impressive!
At R.E.A.L., we like to ensure that learners have the opportunity to explore and utilise the wealth of amazing places we have in our local area. This term, our learners at City Hub visited the Choices and Consequences exhibition at the Galleries of Justice. This exhibition explored the impact of Ben Kinsella’s death in 2008. Many of our learners really took the time to reflect on this and how this could impact on choices that they might make out in the wider world.
